Public consultations launched on improved Version 1 of Saldus Region Land Use Plan

The Land Use Plan has been improved in accordance with suggestions collected during public consultations of the Version 1 when activity was shown by more than 300 residents of Saldus Region. “Since Saldus Region is one of the largest regions in Latvia, such response of people is considered as medium strong feedback, on the whole,” points out Ilze Circene, Production Manager of Saldus Region Land Use Plan on the part of “METRUM”. The main recommendations and objections of the residents on the produced Version 1 of Saldus Region Land Use Plan suggested that no new industrial areas should be placed on the outskirts of Saldus Town in the vicinity of residential buildings. One of such applications was signed by 160 residents of Saldus Region.“The root of this problem lies in both the pollution caused through manufacturing process which is opposed by the residents, and Soviet manner of planning when development of these two inter-conflicting functions was admitted at quite a small distance from each other while neglecting to provide any effect – reducing buffer zones like forest plantations, etc. During elaboration of the improved version of the Land Use Plan, entrepreneurs have been involved in discussions to find compromises so that Saldus would be a favourable environment for living as well as for manufacturing by attempting to extenuate the mistakes made during Soviet era and finding solutions to avoid similar problems in future work on Saldus Town development planning,” explains I.Circene.Company “METRUM” in cooperation with Saldus Region Local Government invites everybody who is interested to view the produced document between January 7th and January 27th, 2013.
