The Land Use Plan development objective is to produce a planning document with the same planning principles for the entire Saldus Region after all the Land Use Plans effective in the 16 administrative subunits of Saldus Region are assessed. Thus the basis for long-term and sustainable development of the region would be created providing equilibrium of public and private owners’ interests. On July 16th, public discussion of Saldus Region Land Use Plan 2013 to 2025 Version 1 has been opened to last until August 31st.Saldus Region Land Use Plan is considered one of the recent years’ most creative projects of “METRUM” in the field of spatial planning, because we had to try to find a balance between the amount of information on the district level, the regulatory framework, which actually refers to district or city scale, and what Saldus government wants to regulate with this document on its territory after all. For quality not to drown in quantity, we chose on-site work in Saldus Region as the main way for development of the plan – decision-making, witnessing the actual situation, and through negotiations with local people, i.e., by the principle – locals know better, says Mrs. Ilze Circene, Spatial Planner at “METRUM” and the manager in charge of this project, about the plan development progress.
